Best bass that the consensus says sucks

When I bought a $100 SX sight-unseen, unheard, etc. Kurt offered not only to take it back, but to eat the shipping. No need to send it back and now it's a terrific modded P.
Rickenbacker has no outside repair/warranty locations. You have to ship it to them for pretty much any reason. That to me, is horrendous customer service. It's kind of the opposite of customer service. Policies like that are, so far the very worst thing about Rickebacker.
That said, I find it to be the most comfortable, most musical sounding axe I've yet played. I didn't expect either. And I'm a very happy boy. It is also, hands down, the coolest looking axe in the world.
Now, if I can just get rid of the single coil hum...

+1, My thoughts exactly......... As a young lad growing up I had some serious Ric lust. A few years ago I picked up an awesome Jetglo 78 4001, and tried to make myself fall in love with it. For the life of me I could not get used to playing the beast. I would've loved to have hung on to it but, in the name of GAS for other things, I passed it along.
A lot of people hate Ibanez and I alwasy thought of them as chessy and flimsy until I played a played one with bartolini's and fell in love with it. 500 bucks. I bought it.
It's not the most versitile bass but for what it does, it does it really well.
if anything, I think people over estimate boutique basses.

+1 - I got one for my son last Christmas and the neck is really sweet.
I don't see much Dean love on TB but I think they make a pretty solid bass for the $. I have a Hardtail, an Edge Q4, and an Edge Q4 Bartolini. All of them are exceptional for the price I paid. Although I did only pay $140 each for the Q4's and $300 for the Hardtail. All three were Korean made and played great right out of the box.
My Steinberger Spirit XT. Always get bagged on because it's not a "true" Steinberger. Even got bagged on by a guy playing a Hamer once. But hey, 24 frets, EMG Select passive humbuckers fore and aft, and very light, virtually never need to tune it.

Not to start a fight, but what could anyone complain about concerning a Rick( except the string change issue, its a pain on their guitars as well)? I finally bought a 4003 about a month ago, I could not imagine a nicer bass. It is the best playing bass I've ever held. To put my statement in context, I am 45, played guitar since I was 16, played bass for about 5 years, currently own 18 guitars and basses. No bass compares to the Rick. Again not starting an argument, just confused by the rick-hate.
On TB... ANY bass can be posted and you will have replies with dudes who love the crap out of it. No matter the make, country of origin, year, or building materials.

Different strokes. There is no one-size-fits-all bass, same as with shoes. Haha, weird analogy...
There are dealers that actually sell Rics below MSRP. Just have to find them. I'm lucky to have one nearby, and a brand new Ric costs no more than a Fender AM DX.
Rics are definitely an odd-bird around here. I dont think that any other single brand has the "great divide" in opinions.
I've never played one even though I've lusted from afar over the years. I love the look and the sound I've heard from people who use them but all the negative talk I've seen here about poor QC, poor cust service, etc, makes me VERY leery about ever getting one of my own.

I actually dont have any hate for ric basses. They are just not for me, and evidentaly a lot of other players as well. I love the way they look and sound when someone else is playing them. For me I guess it'll allways be a P bass or a Stingray. I just can't make my head and hands like anything else.

You are obviously only looking at the TB front page when there are no updated Warwick threads.
Anybody that has actually made it into the Rock n Roll hall of fame,
that i cared about used a American Fender Jazz / P bass or a Rickenbacker.
Anybody else that i actually cared about played a American Jazz/ P Bass or a Rickenbacker.
Really simple, other than a few exceptions that could overcome my completely narrow mind.
it would be cool to know in general what bass is hated the most, so i can buy one.
if you can't sell your bass for more than 700 bucks, then sell it.
