Best bass you've ever had stolen

In the mid 70s I had a Rickenbacker 4001 fretless stolen out of the church I was going to, along with a 63 Fender Deluxe Reverb amp and a great strat copy with an ash body and maple fingerboard. I was just shattered.

wow. it's pretty obvious that the person that stole it was going to church for the wrong reasons. :scowl:

I loaned one of my friends my '69 P-bass (this was like 1975) to do a New Years' Eve gig and he nicked it and went home to Colorado with it. About 7 months later I heard thru the grapevine he was back in town and staying at his girlfriends' house. She lived with her parents. One late afternoon I called the house asking for him and the girlfriend's little brother who didn't know me, answered the phone and I asked for my "friend". The kid says he ain't here right now but will be for dinner later. I grab one of my REAL friends and we go down to the girlfriends house and ring the door bell at dinner-time. We get invited into the dining room and when we walked around the corner to where every body was sitting eating dinner, the look on the that dude's face was truly priceless. I said I know you have the bass let's go get it RIGHT NOW. He got up from the table and I got the bass back. That bass was the best sounding P-bass I ever heard. I kept it about 6 more months then had to sell it to pay off a motorcycle loan. Never saw it again. People who steal instruments oughta have their fingers broken if they get caught.

"loaned" a Stingray V to a "friend". Beautiful instrument. After a couple of months, I asked for it back. He told me the bass was being used for recording studio work in Hollywood. He promised it back in 2 weeks. A month goes by, I again ask for the bass to be returned. "oh, I shoulda told you...the studio was broken into and all
'our' gear was stolen."

I immediately called police to report the studio "burglary". Was told there were no burglaries at said address ( it was a N. Hollywood residence as it turned out).

Called back my "friend". Some girl answers the phone... "oh Brian moved out last tuesday... said he was going back east to live with his mother" .

Lighter 1 EBMM Stingray V. & a WHOLE LOT wiser. Hey Brian- if you're reading this, i got 2 words for you. the 2nd word is YOU.

Never had a bass stolen, but did have an early 60s Rick 325 short scale stolen in 68. Also a great pre CBS Super, that my ex brother in law borrowed. He said the place it was being used at was broken into and everything was taken, but I always figured he either traded or sold it for some drugs. But, I suppose it was partly my own fault for letting him use it since I knew was a worthless piece of %#(*........

Not stolen from me, but looking through the craigslist ads yesterday, saw an ad placed by a store owner who said he found a Rickenbacker laying in his parking lot, and looking for an owner to identify some markings, so someone sure had a bad day when they went to unload their car

Never had a bass stolen (knock on wood), but did have my taylor stolen by a very good friend (not anymore). He moved to georgia and was up for the weekend, said he had a gig and asked to borrow said taylor. Never saw or heard from him again. That was 10 years ago. Live and learn.
