Best Battery for Active basses

Yes, it is true.

Audere says that because if you use a lithium battery until it starts losing charge, it can catch fire. I have an Audere pre and use lithium, but I swap for new every 6 mos. Never had a problem nor do I anticipate one.

Kind of like use glue in pizza so the cheese does not slide off.

Duracell since it's the only one that will fit into the battery box.

A couple of my basses battery compartments won't take Duracell, only Energizers.

I have had several Duracell batteries leak on me over the past two years (9V, AA and AAA). They used to be a good reliable battery, but I won't risk using them anymore in anything I own. I can't believe it's just dumb bad luck as they were all purchased over a few months at different stores. Anyway, I switched to Energizer now and have never had any problems with leaks.

I did use ProCells for a while, seemed to last a bit longer before I automatically changed them.

The funny thing is, when I was really ODC about 9v's, I tried the lithium variety, and they did NOT fit in the Alembics. Anybody else run across this? They seemed to have tighter square corners of the casing that just did not play nice.

I once tried an Energizer lithium battery in a Stingray, oddly enough. But the lithium battery fit too snugly in the battery compartment. I didn't try to force it all the way into the compartment.

yeah, I had this experience with an Energizer lithium 9v.
tl;dr: don't.

I replaced the old alkaline 9v in my Stingray with an Energizer lithium 9v about an hour before a gig as I suspected the old one was getting weak.
The lithium got stuck a little less than half way. I mean really stuck. I couldn't get out, nor would it go further in.
I screwed around with it for half an hour trying to get it out. Took the battery box out. No dice. 15mn 'till I gotta leave for the gig. Now it's getting urgent...
I put a towel over the body, & as gently as I could, I whacked the battery with a rubber mallet & in it went.

Good thing lithiums last last a long time, because I'm probably going to need to replace the whole battery box the next time I need to change it...

I've since bought some Ultralife lithium 9v, I'll measure them to see how they compare to the stuck Energizer & alkalines...

I had a really prestigious studio engineer tell me that Duracell is more quiet than Energizer. He recommended it for pickups and pedals, and would even bring it up during sessions when he noticed someone was playing an active instrument or had a pedalboard. No idea if it makes a difference but now I always use Duracell.

You don't understand how one company could use different materials for different brands' products, or how they would choose different tolerances for QC?

I do, I also understand that changeover process is more expensive than just running the existing production line.

Do they fit the MM battery box okay?

They fit frightfully tight in mine a few years ago. As in, dang, I better not shove that in any further lest I not be able to remove it. So regular Duracells and Energizers for me.

I may try one now and see how it fits.

Hi @Geri O. I use a variety of 3 makes of 9V batteries but generally stick to the Energizer Max Plus. I have also used Energizer Ultimate Lithiums and UltraLife Lithiums.
I own a white 2017 EBMMSR5 (2 pickup model) and I tested all 3 batteries in the battery box on the bass and all 3 batteries fit easily. It may be possible on certain models of Stingrays that the battery box is a slightly different size? I dont see why the battery box size would differ but if you and others have trouble with certain make batteries fitting in then it maybe that EBMM used slighly different size boxes..it would only take a fraction size difference when sliding a battery in if the box is a shade smaller for example. There are quite a few different EB Stingrays..classic, 30th anniversary, Old Smoothie etc etc etc. so maybe my 2017 model has a slightly larger battery box?
Of course if you have the battery the wrong way round (neg going down the box to pos etc) that would explain why the battery would stop sliding into the battery box. On my SR if you look into the battery box without a battery in it you will see 2 holes at the bottom...one large...one small..to accommodate the appropriate battery terminals poking through the bottom of the box to make contact. On the top of my battery box there is a small + and a small - to give the correct positioning for the battery...and like I said..if its incorrectly placed to slide into the box..it will get stuck halfway down as the different sized holes at the bottom wont allow further travel downward. Easy enough to do if not super careful...on my bass anyway, so I always have to wear my specs loll.
Anyway to reiterate...
