Belgium hands down. i'm not saying that because i live in belgium, i'm not even belgian. belgians really know how to make beers, and a close second would be germany. imo US beers are just water, like most beers from the UK.

Ummm, what UK beers have you tried?! English beer is awesome, so many regional varieties, different breweries, different types of hops... we have some of the best beers in the world. Forget the crap you buy in the supermarket and visit a proper country pub. None of that rubbish lager you have on the continent, proper English ALE :)

No option for England? WTH?

While I love Belgian and other beers from time to time, if I had to pick only one reasonably available beer to have for the rest of my life, it would be Sam Smith's Old Brewery Pale Ale. It's not too hard to find, and ruthlessly drinkable.

Sam Smiths Oatmeal Stout is far and away my favorite. You my friend live in beer heaven. How many breweries do you have within a 50 mile radius??

One of the best beers ever brewed. Hallelujah.

However, Anderson Valley's Barney Flats Oatmeal Stout became my favorite when it hit my lips 15 years ago.

I go back and forth on whether I like Anderson Valley or Samuel Smith's better in terms of Oatmeal Stouts.

A few years ago a friend and I homebrewed what we called "Breakfast Stout". A oatmeal, cream (milk sugar) and coffee stout. It came out pretty good, though I think we used a bit too much oats as it was a bit hazy and slightly astringent. Fantastic mouthfeel though.

Not to derail the thread any further, but has anyone else tried Alaskan's Smoked Porter? Mmm. . .

LOL. Quite a few. Seems that the smaller craft beer bug hit here much harder and earlier than in most places. It's great being able to walk into a place and try the selection of house beers, some of which are even cask-conditioned, which IMO is the absolute pinnacle of draft beer taste. MMMMMmmmm.

The Oatmeal Stout is a stellar achievement. I've had lots of ones where people tried unsuccessfully to duplicate it.

The average, mass-produced beer in the US is worthless, no doubt. But there are so many microbrews across the country that serve up some excellent beer, that the US is definitely at the top of the list somewhere. It's just taking as a bit longer to educate the average consumer. Over the last 15 years, I've increasingly noticed more microbrew beers being served in restaraunts, and the people I meet seem to be drinking better beer all the time.

I'm an american and most american beers suck (with the exception of a few micro brews) as they are pilsners.....they all taste like piss and hairspray......

I was overseas in Ireland once and saw a poster of a draft horse eating out of a feed bag with the Murphys' logo on the side...the horse was pissing into a bucket labeled Budweiser....laughed for hours over that one....

The thread would have been better if you specified what kind of beer in particular....

That said all of the best brewski i have ever tasted (keep in mind i'm a stout drinker---very fond of black and tans) all come from County Cork Ireland..

Beamish, Murphy's, Guinness......

Which I often mix with Bass, Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, or Harp's

sometimes when i can find it i'll drink Belhaven once again (Scottish)

Sam Smiths Oatmeal stout works in a pinch.....

Newcastle Nut Brown also works in a pinch....

My Vote is Scotland by far......

my two cents....
