What do I look for brand wise?

Yamaha? Spirit Folio? Behringer? Alesis? Samson? Mackie?

Please keep in mind this is NOT for live shows and I want to stay under $100

these little "notebook" mixers can be found for not that much over $100 new.

used, mackies and spirits are good, behringers will be dirt cheap. (i got a 6-ch version, the one with 2 XLRs and the rest 1/4", for like $25, and wouldn't have paid any more for it.)

i'd avoid samson or alesis.

I've recently bought a Peavey PV8. Seems good to me also includes a USB - so you could connect a laptop and record.
