Best cheap amp...

The peavey firebass is hardly a lower end bass amp, its a really good amp. Have you ever used one?

IMO blows away Ashdown, Hartke or TE amps (other than the all valve ones). Also, i think you will find Ashdown, especially the lower end amps, have been pretty badly riddled with failures recently.

Take them apart and think what you think, but Peaveys reputation in recent years for ultra reliable amps cannot be denied, so, the parts cant be that cheap can they. Also, judge a sound by the sound, not by the things making that sound.

Also, have a look around for general reviews on the 2x15 i recommended, its a very highly aclaimed cabinet . . .

I have been a peavy owner of an old 2x10, 18 and it was a beast.... i actually love peavey for their rock solid build.....

In regards to the ashdown.... i bought an ashdown 2x10 combo ....this has the mag300 head built in and goes up to 307 with an extension cab (will get the 15)....

Maybe the guy quoted above had a bad experience with ashdown but I love the 2x10 combo... I have read nothing but positive things from ashdown owners recently so I think the build issue he mentioned is a thing of the past.....my 2x10 has plenty of power to cut through the mix....and i have an over exuberant drummer......go ashdown...like someone said above it a no brainer...especially since they are made in your backyard!

Ive seen quite a few negative comments about ashdown reliablility recently, but that may be changing. The ashdown sound has never been for me, and i'd still say used Peavey is better bang for buck.

This just goes to show that opinions are nothing more than one man's impression. Personally, I'd pick an Ashdown over a Peavey in a heartbeat.

I'll preface it with this... I've never owned a Peavey bass amp, and I do own a Peavey tweed guitar amp that I absolutely love. That being said... there was a practice a few years back when my bass amp was in the shop. My guitarist (he doubles as a bass player) let me use his amp which was a Peavey 15" combo (don't remember the model#). It was the absolute worst sounding amp I've ever played. Dull and lifeless, no definition... blech. I suffered through the practice but vowed to never play it again.

Not to say that all Peavey bass amps are bad... many people swear by them... but that one experience has forever tainted it for me. It just go to show you should take everyone's opinions with a grain of salt.

I could not agree more.

I love my Peavey 2x15. I got the Black Widow version, which are leaps and bounds ahead of the scorpion loaded cab. Its a very deep sounding cab, but its a 2x15. I played noise rock for a while and it can make really interesting sounds if you play with it alot. I used to take a little toy guitar with a built in speaker and run it into a Big Muff, on-board overdrive, and run the sustain on the Muff all the way up, it made the coolest sounding tones when you hit the E from the 2x15.

I love my 210 Mag300 combo and I have the mag deep 115 cab...the 210 byitself is pretty ballsy for being what it is...I added the 15in and now its amazing for the money I put into it.
