Best cheapest 5 string ?

Well, I love vintage basses, only play on an 72 Jazz and a mixed 74 with a 71 P bass...
But i know it's tricky with 5 strings because in order to get that GOOD low B sound - you gotta buy something " expensive ".
But to be honest i played on Squiers 5 string basses that blow me away and played on Fodera 5 strings basses that kinda not...
So where does it end :) ??

Lakland skyline 55-01 are going between 1000 - 1300 :\ that's a lot for me i think..
I played a Music man OPT or something a few days ago - like Squier of fender but for music man - she sounded peaty damn good and cost 175.00 :)
Maybe i should go back and buy her.. ?

They're like 800 new, and I suggested used, which would fall in your budget. Really though anyone can recommend any bass that WE like but you need to use your ears and find the one the speaks to you! If it sounded good, go get it!

I think the Peavey Millennium BXP 5er is better than any other 5er out there for under $500. They are $259 new (I bought a used one for just over $100) and I often use it to back up my Fodera, 72 Jazz and 1974 P.

For $600, a used USA Millennium 5er is tough to beat. Killer basses with terrible resale. For a few more bucks, a used Lakland 55-02 is a great option.

Lots of great 5ers available for well under $1k these days in any case.....

There are a lot of options out there, many, which were already noted, are good ideas. I wouldn't discount anything by Dean or Schecter either. Best advice is to play everything you can and use your hands and ears. They'll determine what you like and don't. If you live somewhere where there aren't a lot of options, you tube is your friend. A lot of good reviews on there if you look.

Any idea of the tone you want to achieve?

For this range of price you can find some interesting basses in the market. Think that for this range of prices you don´t gonna take at home the best low B but you can take away a not to bad low B.

One of the better choices that I tried was the Yamaha TRBX 505. Good sound, playability and with a real good low B. It´s a bit priced that the TRBX 305 but I find it fairly better. The Rockbass are good enough too for a tight budget and they have a real good low B too. The Ibanez SR5005 are great too, but their Bartolini Mk-1 pickups isn´t for me. Probably with another pickups I´d liked.

I don´t liked the Squiers 5 strings too much. Their low B don´t sound with the same punch and definition than Yamaha and Rockbass. Cort are well made but I find´em that their sound it lost within the band.

I think that Yamaha and Rockbass probably they was the best for this range of prices.
