Best Chorus Pedal(s)?

I play one of the slightly older danelectro choruses, the tiny 'milkshake'. It's brilliant. Only has 'rate' and 'depth' controls, but can do from a little subtle chorusing right through to stupidly watery sounds (somewhere in the middle is really nice). Like someone mentioned already, you can get nice cure-esque simon gallup like sounds. On a fretless, I dunno, not tried...

Another chorus-like option is the detune function on a digitech whammy. Select 'shallow' detune and use the pedal to push in as much or as little as you want. (I believe in general chorusing effects are created by the sounding of the original note and a note close to it, but very slightly sharp or flat and delayed).

That's probably too full an answer.

If you've got loads of money, EBS chorus pedals are excellent.

pricey!!! but worth it...Nuff said

I'm currently using two different chorus pedals. For the warbly watery stuff, I use a stereo electric mistress. For the icy shimmery sounding stuff, I'm using the Behringer knockoff of the old Boss DC-2. I absolutely love the sound, but I'm not willing to shell out $250 for the Boss quite yet.

How is the behringer knockoff? Is it really icy sounding? I thought the DC-2 was a warmer chorus.

I couldn't tell you how close it is to the DC-2 because I've never played one. I would say that the Behringer is a bit icy though. There isn't a lot of movement to it, it basically just gives the signal this shimmery, sparkly tone. If the DC-2 really is a warmer chorus, than perhaps the Behringer fails pretty badly at being a knock off. Regardless, I personally like the sound it makes a lot. I'll definitely be demo'ing it (along with all of my other pedals) in the coming month, once I'm finished settling into my new house (and I can get all of my gear unpacked)

I'm a fan of the 18v Danelectro Cool Cat. It's why I bought one on the eBay lo these many moons past. I'm also unable to post on these forums without saying the word Polychorus at least once per session. Neither cost more than $250 - actually, the Polychorus costs $208 at most major effects retailers, and the 18v Cool Cat is found on the eBay.

I have heard the DC-2 called lush, spacial, and warm among other things.

Just spotted a DOD bass stereo chorus pedal at musicgoround for a humble $30

what a cruel, cruel world in which thirty bucks feels like a lot of money. For some rason I absolutely love the sound I get outta the Ibanez Soundtank chorus a friend gave me for free. I just have to step on it very gingerly...

I have a Dan Electro Cool Cat that is really a nice unit. I really haven't found anything close to it in it's price range. This obviously is a matter of personal opinion, but I do prefer it over the Boss Units. It has a greater gap in the rate side and is dead silent when you're not playing it. It's got a nice thick sound that really complements my fretless basses well.

But the downside is that the cool cats run on 18 Volts which do cause problems if you are only relying on batteries. These bad boys use so much DC juice that the LED will literally start to fade after 30 minutes of play. So I always use a AC adapter with that unit. I paid about $70 as I recall. A bit more than some of the other guys who apparantly have found them priced just over $50.

I also just ordered a vintage Ross Chorus from a Pawn Shop that has yet to arrive. I'm really hoping to hear some different things coming out of that one.

Finally, I don't own the Carl Martin Chorus for Bass. However I have tried one and it's one hell of a unit. If you're willing to shell out $50-$60 more over the Danelectro I think you'll find these C.Martins new at about $120.
