Double Bass Best compliment on a gig. (DB Forum Thread)

Probably when Art Lande told me that I reminded him of Dave Holland... someone with whom he's played quite a bit. That gave me quite the afterglow. 
A few years ago while subbing for Buddy Catlett on a big band gig the leader told me I had done a fine job and that he should know, because he doesn't tolerate bass players very well. I told him I understood, because I felt the same way about band leaders. Haven't worked for him since.
I've had some people say some things that would have been really flattering if not so ill-informed.
I think the best compliment was a sincere "yeah, Troy" from someone who I really respected.

Many years ago someone came up to the sax player in my jazz quartet and asked, "Where'd you find a white guy that can play bass like that?" Its a politically incorrect question/compliment, but I still find it amusing. I 'think' it was meant as a compliment.
Recently I was playing a bluegrass gig and an older gentleman walked to the bandstand and yelled out over the music, "Ya'll are good" and then points to me and says, "you're awesome, you could get a job anywhere!" Funny stuff, especially since everyone else in the band heard it.
