Double Bass Best compliment on a gig. (DB Forum Thread)

I was playing in Pinetop Perkins band at a festival in Bangor Maine and Dave Mattacks (drummer for Fairport Convention, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Richard Thompson etc) told me I got a great sound out of the bass. That made the 8 and a half hour ride home a breeze.

In college, I played the Rossini Duetto for cello and bass for a noon student recital...one of those lab things where a bunch of students play as a course requirement.

The recital was only supposed to go until 1:00, when classes resumed, but it went long, and we were last on the program. We finished playing at 1:20, and not one person had left to get to their class (including professors). Even got a standing ovation. They were probably clapping for the cellist, Harry Sturm, but it still gave me a nice feeling.

I was playing in a country house gig and the lead singer told me..."you know, I never even notice you're there, that's a good thing"....I thought to myself..."time to pump up the CHOPS"....perhaps some country slap bass or hammer ons

2 in one night (Last weekend)

1 - We were jamming at a laid back (But very expensive) birthday party for someone at our entertainment company (One of the biggest in the country), and a guest told our president we were the best band in the company. Not a big deal unless you work for the company and know how big of a statement that is.

2 - At the same party, a TV personality told me I was the best bass player they've ever heard. I'm NOT the best, but I did play well that night, and it still put a smile on my face!

Oh, and Howie Mandel also said "Nice playing, I heard you from the lobby" when I was at the Ritz Carlton. Got the famous fist bump after that.

I love my job.
