Best DI to use for replicating effects from bass amp

I use fuzz and OD and a slew of other effects as well. I have been frustrated just the same as you, for the same reason.
I have tried using the miced bass cab, it lead to more frustration than the DI route. For some reason, the sound guy can never leave the mix alone and is always twiddling with the knobs, resulting in ... FEEDBACK. I have since returned to the DI and like you am looking for options.

I've had good results FOH mixing rock stuff with a DI for a clean bottom end and SM57 for the character. Just crossed them over at 250hz. Best of both worlds.

I just checked your amp out-
I can see why you don't want to buy a nice mic bc they probably cost more than your combo haha. Which is fine and I'm not judging but at least I get why you can't run something "in line" now. When you said Marshall amp I assumed it was some variation of their guitar stuff and a 100W tuber or something.

I guess the Line Out to a DI is about your only choice at this point.

Well I'm looking to upgrade! That's why I'm asking this. I'm just wondering if there is any point in buying a valve/monster amp if the sound doesn't come through properly. The B65 has been my home recording amp since 1996!

My thinking is if I find a way of DIing so I retain the sounds of my effects then it doesn't matter what sort of amp I have. All I would need would be an amp large enough to hear on stage.

I've been playing six string in bands for a few years, branching out into bass. If I can see any point I would probably get the Ashdown Little Bastard and use the DI with the emulated speaker between the head and the cab.

Not much sense making a big investment if it's going to be wasted. Plus the less to carry the better...

(Also, the B65 sounds really good, so In Your Face ;) )

Well all I can say is, when it comes to bass and bass "tones", very much unlike guitar, get ready for disappointment on epic levels lol. Soundpeeps usually don't care to put you in the mix at audible levels, much less "work out" your sound(s), etc.. ;) It's a tough racket.

In that case, there's plenty of options available if you went the head+cab route. IME most onboard DI's from quality amps do a good to really good job of not ruining FX, even OD/distortion. A mic is always ideal (anyone ever ask why nobody runs "DI" distortion for guitar?? newp... bc they know it sounds terrible lol) but explaining that to the bumbling guy on stage is usually impossible. In your search I wouldn't look for something that requires the DI in-line between your amp and cab- that method only works with certain tube amps anyway since there's a wattage limit on those (like the U5, JDI and 85). Just find an amp that has an onboard DI that sounds good.

For my current record I'm just going DI and reamping through a Mesa Dual Rec half stack for some bite, not even using a bass amp and it sounds great. And again I'm sure your combo DOES sound good. one of my best amps was my SWR 115 Black Beauty combo... ;) But, it had an onboard DI w/ Level control at least so I didn't need any extra accessories.

go to [Invalid or Expired Link Removed], get the Tech21 British with JimmyM mod, DI mod, and Parallel output mod.
put it at the end of your signal chain after your effects, sending its DI to the house, and use the parallel (or unaffected) output to your amp so the pedal doesn't colour your amp sound.
Done and done.
