Best Distortion/Fuzz/OD?

I'm looking to buy a pedal for heavy. I play in a doom/sludge metal band. I need a really good pedal for this.

I've looked at Fuzzrocious Rat King/Demon King/Darkest Driving, Zvex Wooly Mammoth/Mastrotron, Darkglass B3K, and Empress Multidrive. I like all the pedals for different reasons. What's the best all around or anything else you think I should check out?

DOD 250 for your OD
Idiot Box Dungeon Master or Static Fuzz for your fuzz
Check out something like the Blower BOx for distortion.

And a Darkglass B7K to put it all into. You will be killing it!! There are really tons of dirt pedals out there that will excel in doom and sludge but these are the ones that came to my mind at first and are pretty accessible and most are reasonably priced as well.

I just reread you OP, sorry. If youre after just one pedal, one dirt pedal that will help you get a really mean, dirty, warm or wooly sound, the DOD 250 is kinda hard to beat as far as OD/gritty tone goes. The Blower Box has quite a few raunchy a** tones in it as well.

If you want just one pedal to cover DOOM/Sludge. A DOD 250 seems to be a staple for that genre. Also if you like the Fuzzrocious stuff you can get two circuits in one pedal which will cover a lot of ground. Say a Demon and a Grey Stache. That way you get your OCD type overdrive and your Green Russian type muff all in one package.

I must say I am still intrigued by the Darkest Driving. I don't know if it is an original design or if it is based on anything specific but it sound pretty killer to me. Maybe Ryan will chime in here.

This should do you right.

Black Arts Pharaoh Supreme!!

No bands specifically. I really want a pedal that can do insane kill the crowd distortion/fuzz, but still give a clear fundamental.

I loved the amount of distortion that the Rat King can bring, but its low end is indecipherable.

I haven't had any issues with low end on my Rat Tail. I know some say they experienced some low end roll off. If there is, I haven't noticed it. The Blower Box has more low end but it sounded too scooped to me to sit well in a band mix. His Grey Stache is IMO one of the best muff fuzzes for retaining clarity of the attack. For an all out onslaught of fuzzy awesomeness I prefer the Baby Thundaa though.

I still think if you want to go the Fuzzrocious route a demon/Stache in one box would treat you nice if you wanted all the way from low gain grind to fuzzy goodness while maintaining your fundamentals.

There are plenty other builders who make great pedals that would do what you ask but the option of having two circuits in one box is pretty cool to me.

Outside of Fuzzro their are some great pedals too that might be what you are looking for.

DOD 250
SUF civil war
Big Ear Woodcutter
JohnK Orange preamp
Blueberry bass OD
Fairfield Barbershop
Supercollider
Superfuzz

Or just get a big ass tube amp and crank the f*ck out of it. :)

It's based on the Dark Driving ;)

You said it right in your first sentence.

Half-Joking.

Lots of great suggestions in the thread. Since you're interested in the MultiDrive, I thought you might like the Heavy, as per FretNoMore's suggestion.
If you're interested in the Heavy, talk to Adamixoye, he's got both the MultiDrive and the Heavy and might be able to answer a few questions if you have any.

Of course, if you want heavy, then Blindrabbit's suggestion for Heavy Electronics might fit the bill, too!

Good luck on your heavy quest.

Just my suggestion, which is working freaking awesome for me...

-Big Muff Deluxe Bass DI>
-Darkglass Vintage Micro Tubes>
-Sansamp Deluxe Bass DI Driver (Programmable)

The Sansamp on the factory distorted bass setting is really sweet, and a relatively mild distortion. Kind of gets you that Geddy Lee overdriven tone. I have the choice of distortion (Muff) or overdrive (VMT). Either one of those into the Sansamp distorted setting are awesome. All 3 at the same time is freaking glorious. The distortion into the VMT really fattens things up, and you can't go wrong with the Sansamp, maybe the best investment I've made since my bass.

I'm thinking about replacing the Big Muff with a Pickle Pie B, only because I have no need for the direct box at that point in the chain, and I'm gradually switching over to all smaller sized pedals. Then I'll move the Sansamp to sit on top of my amp since I don't need it as a stompbox and real estate on the floor is so precious.

There are plently of great options out there but I haven't felt the need to change this up (aside from the smaller pedals thing)
