Best Fender Bass Tone Ever

Lots of personal faves here, but I'll add one not mentioned.

School Boy Crush - AWB

Sounds like a P w/flats and a pick to me.

I posted a link a couple of hours ago to a vid of that song:D

It's "Soul Train" so they could be just miming along to the track.

It looks like Hamish is playing a Musicmaster with a pick.

I've seen other footage of him playing Stingrays.

That track doesn't sound like a stingray!

Great tone.

It's worth checking out that video just for some of the dancin'!:)

And maybe the best bass tone ever?

"Mystery Achievement" by Pete Farndon, the Pretenders

"Masoko Tanga" by Sting, the Police

I know everyone has their preferences but right now this is what I'm listening to a lot, especially the Pretenders, and this is the kind of bass tone I'm going for. Interesting that Farndon plays a PBass with his fingers (I believe) on his track and Sting plays a Jazz with a pick.

So what tracks are your favorite Fender bass tone examples, and best bass tone examples period?

Jesse

Big +1 for my ears, The Pretenders debut is the best rock P bass-ity on record. Farndon was great player, and tho his resume is mighty thin, he has one very enviable legacy in this disc.

DOH! I'll scroll back and find the vid.

I have a live album kicking around somewhere, I think there are a bunch of pictures, I'll see what he's playing in those.

But yeah, no 'Ray on that track, at least I don't think.
