Best flatwound B-string? (Can't afford TI's either)

I'm putting flatwounds on a 35" scale fiver and want to get the best set of flatwounds available at GC (since I have a gift certificate).

Tight strings are fine, I want a B-string that finally balances well with the other strings and can't be more than $45.

Dunlop? EB Slinky's? Chromes?

Tune it E-C and then see what you think.

Edit: and try La Bella strings.

I have Chromes on 2 of my basses and LOVE them.

edit: notice you're wanting a 5 string. I also used to have Chromes on an Ibanez BTB1805 before I sold it. I was very happy with them on that as well.

Imo, the low B on the 5 string chrome set is the best sounding of the bunch. It is taut and full on my 35" scale MTD.

My flatwound low-Bs are all D'Addarios. Have them on 5 basses (4 of which have low-B on each). I have La Bella flats, but these go down only to low-E.

They wouldn’t sound the same, or even feel a little bit similar, but aside from that should work great.

My advice: Don't worry so much about price. Unlike rounds that you need to change constantly, a set of flats will last indefinitely. I am on five years with the Fender flats on my Jazz. Haven't felt the need to change them yet. I can't remember what I paid for them and don't care.

I went through this last year with a 5 string to discover GC only had Chromes in a 5 string package. Order online for more selection.
