Best flatwound strings for the G&L L2000

Another vote for GHS Pressurewounds. I currently have them on a G&L MJ-5 fretless and love them.

One question concerning getting the tone you want out of your L-2000 - are you running with the volume and/or both tone controls at "wide open"? If so, try backing them(especially the volume) down to about halfway and starting from there. A lot of people who have been unhappy with their L-series tone have learned that running with the controls at wide open all the time limits the versatility of this instrument. The "cut only" aspect of the tone circuit tends to confound some who are used to the more conventional "boost/cut" tone controls.

I've got Fender Flats on my ASAT. They sound and feel great on it. EB Cobalt flats are great for that round-ish sound outta a flat. ..
And Fender tapes are my fave tape wound too. ...they sounded great on the ASAT also.

How long have the TI's been on your bass? Flats needs some time to settle in..

Not wide open. Tried all kinds of settings. Zeroed to full on.

With the TIs, it seemed I was able to find several knob placement
settings that sounded good on my Rumble 500 2x10 Combo. Switched over to a PF-50t w 12 and it was not the same. Much more sensitive. I initially included discussion about this full thing but edited it out to focus on strings. If I can't get the bass to sound good with the new amp, the amp has to go. This L2000 is a keeper.

How long have the TI's been on your bass? Flats needs some time to settle in..

2-3 weeks, 8 hours playing (guesstimate). They sounded good on the MJ-4 immediately.

I had Chromes, GHS Pressurewounds and GHS Brite Flats on my L2000 and L2500 with good results. Those GHS strings are not really flats of course. The Pressurewounds worked really well on them. I loved the sound of Chromes too, but apparently the only sensitivity I have playing bass is string tension (something I didnt realize until recently after 30+ years of playing lol) and the Chromes were stiff. GHS also has Precision Flats that arent too expensive to try out (something alot of the other flats cant say)

Infeld (TI) Super Alloys always worked on my L2000 when I still had it. Very warm tone. I never liked SS on it.... Rounds or Flats..... Lots of crazy overtones. Maybe it's a MFD thing?.... I don't like SS on my SB1 either.

So, my Fender P w/ Chromes has been my “flats” Bass. My G&L L-2000 has been my “modern rounds” bass. These 2 Basses couldn’t sound more different. I’ve been gigging with my passive P with flats entirely for the past year.

I was in my local shop this weekend, and they had a nice G&L ASAT Bass that was used and had GHS Precision Flats on it. My reaction was just.... Wow.

I’m putting a set of these on my L-2000 tonight.
