Because if they were mounted higher, they’d be too close together.Amen.
My yearly rant about gig bags is due, and I guess this thread is as good as any.
Why are the backpack straps still mounted so low? I feel like Herman Munster when I use a bag with those straps and go thru a doorway. That's why I bought a GruvGear Sliver. Jay thinks like I do when it comes to straps. He hates the Herman Munster look, too.
Nah. They are in the minority, but I actually have some gig bags with the straps mounted a little higher, and this isn't a problem. I'll grant you they aren't mounted all the way at the top, but gig bags don't need to be designed so that the neck and headstock extend a foot and a half (46 centimeters) over my head.Because if they were mounted higher, they’d be too close together.
Of course it’s possible to mount them higher, but it’s a question of ergonomics and comfort. If you look at most backpacks, the straps are some distance apart, which makes them more comfortable to wear. Personally, I’d rather have the top of the bag a foot and a half over my head than have the bottom of the bag slap against my calves as I walk.Nah. Not really, because then the straps are too far apart to sit comfortably on your shoulders.Just wear your gig bag upside down. Problem solved.
I think the «over the shoulder» strap works if the bag is fairly light. I have a Traveler Guitar TB-4P travel bass, which comes with its own gig bag with that type of strap. As the bass is small and light, it works perfectly. But with a 34" bass and the amount of other gear I normally carry, I’d want two straps to distribute the weight properly.+1,000!
And why did everybody get rid of the over the shoulder strap? That works perfectly for me.
I'm 5'10 and have to duck at doorways with my Vertigo?
And I never wore a backpack across both shoulders as a kid because only dorks did that!
For about $150.00 the Gator ProGo is a very nice bag.
The Gator ProGo I have, and the backpack straps are a disaster-large metal clips that hit ones back. Plenty padded though and very good protection. For about $150.00 the Gator ProGo is a very nice bag.
Levy has straps instead of zippers. If you need to set up fast I would prefer zippers.I picked up a brown leather Levy LM18 on the local classifieds for a good price , it's a gorgeous bag .
A black one showed up recently but somebody beat me to it ...
