best head for hardcore/heavy music

I'm looking for a new head to go with my ampeg 8x10 cab. ive heard good things about marksbass and ampeg pro series. my 400w kustom is too tame and weak for the new stuff we are writing. also i am trying not to blow all my money so i want a good bang for my buck.

Agreed. Markbass is not for you. No one in the heavier genres are playing markbasses. I personally wouldn't go orange unless you're looking at more of a rock sound.
But the GK line will get you a good grind for when you want to ride the rails, and good other tones with a 4 band eq to dial in something else.

I have a 100rbii, and recently upped rig to an MB800 Fusion. 800 watts of hell that cranks my 8x10 with the volume level on 3.

With a budget of $1000 I'd grab the Peavey VB-2. 200+ watts of all tube goodness for about 800 bucks.

Or a fender 300 pro! Killer 300 watts of tubes for under a grand that can get very gnarly if you need and a sweet clean tone.

I haven't tried the ampeg 7 pro.
The 3 pro sounds great.
The RB also sounds great.

For hardcore, I'll add another +1 to a GK amp- either 700RB or 1001RB2. Also used Mesa heads (specifically the Carbines, Titan, or any tube heads). Aguilar AG-500 dual channel. Ampeg SVT-CL.
