Best headphones?

I got a nice pair of AKG K-77's for 45 bucks that sound real nice practicing bass, just don't overly hype the bass.
I have a pair of K-44's (@25 bucks) that do pretty well too.
The cords on both are very long.
What are you driving the headphones with? Headphone out on amp?

This is a very tough question.. I, not too long ago, wanted to purchase a good pair of headphones. It took me over a month of trial and error... Purchased one pair after trying all the potential candidates in one store... Then, carried this pair to other stores to compare and if I found something better, I would buy it and return the first one and so on.. You might not want to do this ;) I ended up keeping the Sennheiser HD 380, out of your price range i now, but just saying for curious minds...

That being said, I would recommend a "Over the ear" kind, it usually gives better bass quality.
In your price range, I have tried Bose, Sony and Koss which are all good options. Try them and buy what feels best.

I can't recommend the Phil Jones Bass H850s highly enough. Far superior bass response to anything I've tried under about $300-400, yet they are only in the $85-90 range. I've come to realize just how deep my instruments sound and how I can EQ them better. It's definitely helped my live sound, as well. As a bonus, music sounds GREAT with them. Very full, but still tight on bottom, and present and clear in the mids and highs.

I bought an Ampeg B100R last weekend, and I'm really loving the headphones option. Only problem is, I just have iphone earbuds and they always fall out... and they're too short.

I haven't had headphones since the 1970s. What's a good pair to use for practicing bass? Can I get away with spending around $50?

I use earbuds because they're more comfortable than headphones - checkout the
Shure SE215 earbuds, mine cost me about $100.

I've used some $20 headphones that worked fine, so under $50? Sure why not. But if you want to splurge you could check these out.

I used to work at a headphone boutique. So I've spent many hours listening to almost every set of 'phones in that video (sans blinged out Beats). I can say without question that the Beyerdynamic Teslas and the Audez’ planar headphones are the best sounding, at least to my ears.

DT880's are my 'phone of choice for pretty much everything. Perfect for practicing bass in my opinion. I have a vintage set which is used for mixing, mastering, and melting my face off. My newer 880 Pro's get pushed HARD with headphone amps while practicing bass. I'm trying to break them. I can't

btw: both pairs are the original 250ohm versions.
