Best headphones?

It all depends on what you are looking for.. I am buying the DT880's after A LOT of research. My use is to use them as mixing cans. They have a swell in the midrange similar to what the Yamaha NS10's are famous for, so you cannot hide errors in your mix. I have read that the DT 990s are good as well but they hare more treble and bass heavy causing fatigue. Another recommendation are the Faital Spirit Pro's...

Now are if you are using them to listen to old Zepplin records, than go with something else. If you want something to get an accurate mixdown... 880's or the Spirits are the way to go.

I bought a set of CAD MH310 headphones a few months ago from Musicians Friend--they're normally $50 but were on sale for $30 for the stupid deal of the day. They isolate really well, have an extra long cord and the 1/8-to-1/4 plug adapter screws on so you're less likely to lose it. Sound quality is just right--the bass is there but not hyped, so they mimic my speaker cabs pretty closely. Very comfortable too.

These headphones are back on sale for the stupid deal of the day for $30. I wish my new Sony headphones were already here so I could comment on which I prefer.

Edit: well, that was fortuitous because the Sonys just arrived. They are a little more clear and comfortable to wear than the CADs. They're both very good but the Sonys are better. Neither has super-deep bass (lowest organ notes are pretty faint on my Saint Saens Organ Symphony CD with either set). Pitch, clarity and tone of regular bass notes down to 40 Hz are fine with either. The CADs are well worth the $30 sale price and the Sonys are worth the $64 I paid too; both are keepers.
