Best Korean made basses?

my Hohner ......

Made in Korea.. plays like a dream, sounds even better... I paid $200 for it. Just bought it yesterday, I couldn't pass up the sweet deal... Black chrome bridge, black chrome hipshot tuners.. extra gain circuit placed inside for a bit more growl..

Gorgeous axe!! Nice score for $200 too.

Check out Willows Guitars. www.willowsguitar.com
Swing Guitars are great too, so I hear.

PS: When you come over here to Korea, you might wanna visit the Nakwon Mall. Tons of shops there you can take a look around.

Thank you for the heads up on the Nakwon Mall. I'll be sure to check it out.

I was slightly disappointed by the Mr. Potato outside of Osan AB. He had like 5 basses in there and only a couple I even recognized the names of. A couple Brice's. Straight out the gate in the walking mall, past the Mc Donalds is a Yamaha shop. They have decent selection of basses there. It's where I got my Fender Jazz. Although at least for the Fenders there. They are probably fake. Nice quality that seems like a CIJ, but alas is still probably a fake. :hmm: At least most of the instruments there are pretty damn cheap and their accessory selection isn't too bad either.

Rock ON! :bassist:

Chris, I know what Yamaha shop you're talking about. I'll be sure to drop in there while I'm at Osan this fall. Hopefully Mr. Potato will have a better selection by the time I get there.

How about trying some independent Korean brand?

I'll look into both of those. Thank you for the recommendation. I'm not against picking up a couple of nice basses while I'm over there if I like them and the price is right. :)

Boostedrex, it was a pretty lucky find. I bought it because of the looks and playability, and also it will be a temporary 2nd bass so I can redo the Jazz. I will post pictures of the Jazz, both before and after, when it is done. :)

All the name brand instruments you find over here are made by one of a handful of companies over there, and to really maximize the ability to get a good deal, the trick would be to (a) figure out which Korean company builds instruments for your favorite brand, then (b) find out which "local" brands are made in that factory, and get one of those. I doubt you could get many if any "name" brand instruments for much less in Korea vs. anywhere else, even if they are built there. It wouldn't surprise me if they shipped them from the factory to a distributor elsewhere and then shipped them BACK to Korea for retail sales.

Good call. I'll have to start digging for some info.

I've been tying to figure out the same... In Korea and the Nagwan Music Arcade is mind blowing.. I just posted a vid on youtube of me walking through just one floor.. I have another week, and after two months of living in a hotel right next door, I've been lucky to play a lot of em.. but what did you pick? I'll give my choice next week, if I can choose that is... can't go wrong with any of this...

Wow! There's actually a thread for my bass.. lol

"DAME! That's a Badass bass!" LOL

I wanted a fender J bass or a lakland.. But couldn't afford one yet..

So i settled for the dame j bass.

It has passive/active pups.
GROVER machine heads.

2 9V batts

Swamp ash body
Maple fret board

Pearl Block inlays
Pearl pick guard.

I got this bass for 1/4 the price of a Fender Deluxe J bass..

and its sound is sooo good and the feel is better!

Put on some DR-Fat beams

Thats it!
