all-black+maple is indeed cool. i always think of it as the look from when punk was just starting to become new wave, just before MTV became a thing.

if i were a maple board guy (i'm not) it would be totally black + maple for me. as it is, rosewood doesn't look quite as cool on all-black because you still have that light-colored maple headstock poking out.

You could always paint the head-stock black.

I went through the same difficult choice with my geddy Lee jazz. I ended up with a black pick guard I also bought a maple one of eBay. Looked great but never fit right. Search pick guard for geddy Lee jazz and you will get lots of photos and ideas.

In order. 'Black three ply. Then black pearl. Then charcoal pearl. Then black abalone. Then white pearl. Then tort.

Then anything but plain white. Nothing looks cheaper than plain white. Reminds me of a bad rug.

Your post made me realize my "black tort" pictured above is actually black abalone. I think I need to try black pearl and I think I have a white pearl around somewhere. The plain white is silly and I know this is not a new topic. I guess Fender hopes to sell a lot of aftermarket PGs. The black one was sold out at Fender a few weeks ago, and I ended up scoring one here.

Thanks all for your ideas.
