Best mate for a P pickup

No but I have narrowed it down to Nord Big Splits or Dual Coils.

I've been contemplating the same thing for quite a while now; leaning towards the dual coil. Theoretically, if the dual coil can still give the bite of a J bridge pickup with some more fatness to compete with the P pickup, then it's a winner. Then if there's also the option of a series/parallel/single coil switch, it seems there would be tons more versatility compared to a J pickup. I wonder if there are any fellow TBers out there who have tried this. I'd love to hear what it sounds like before routing my bass.

Just bought a big split to put in the bridge position. It'll be a few weeks before everything is installed (gotta route the body! ), I'll update the thread then.

This sounds like it would work great! I'm a big Nordy fan anyway. I did my recent PJ with a Dimarzio Ultra J and it's not bad, but I agree that the thinner J just doesn't quite balance the P with the low fat coils. Not that it's horrible or anything. In fact I love it, but I agree that we'd love to hear what a big split does for P/j kind of thing.

Didn't mean to abandon the thread.
Ok, so after lots of research I decided against the Big Split and went with a Nord SE. Wow! Of all the bridge Js I've tried this it's by far the best balanced. The enhanced low mids and slight volume increase over a typical J really made the difference. I can now pull back on the P volume and not lose overall volume. The only issue I could see would be the bass doesn't get that scooped PJ slap tone, it's more for meaty fingerstyle.

The main thing about a P pickup, that I like, is that the 2 coils are run in series, that said, I've got a double J style pickup in my bridge position (inner coil in the Jazz position so the outer coil is closer to the bridge) the JJ is wired in parallel but I would like the option of switching it to series (only 3 conductor so no go....)..... anyway I think the ideal match for a P pickup (on a 4 or 5 string) is a dual coil (JJ style) humbucker.... or another P pickup.... I thought the Am. Dlx. P-Bass of old nailed it....
