Someone please explain to me why a metal bassist would need a 6 string 24 fret bass?

Please explain to me why you feel the need to stereotype metal bassists? Just because the only metal you've heard is slipknot and Distrurbed doesn't mean they're all ******, unoriginal, main stream idiots.

EBMM Bongo. I played the 2207 ltd 5 string version and it is so friggin cumfortable.

Exactly, Bongos are tone monsters... very well suited for metal wether you want to cut through with lots of clarity or are filling the mix with thunderous low end grit.

And there is no problem in that. It's the bassist that most provide the metal, not the bass.

I use a fretless Tony Franklin sig Precision Bass to play metal.
The bass does the job just fine, only I need to improve.

Actually I "improved" my bass two days ago. I put a Seymour Duncan Basslines Quarter Pounder SPB-3 in and ditched the jazz pickup.
Now my bass has a more aggressive tone and wont do mellow anymore.
Waiting on heavier strings and thinking of possibly replacing the bridge with a higher mass one.

although i think i may still use my schecter hellraiser 5 for the metal side of things

But that aside, bongos are GREAT instruments, get it in black, sling it a bit low and forget about looks.

lets face it metal is about not giving a **** so why in the whole instrument world do metal bass players, guitarists and even drummers go around instruments like preppy girls buying a prom dress or shoes.

Its the same thing except instead of "oh this one is cute" "OMG thats adorable"

That said not all metal bassists are about looks, in fact a lot are not. tone and Playability come first IMO. The Bongo is fantastic.

And if i were in your situation, i'd go with a spector.

Alex Webster uses Modulus. You should try Modulus to get the same tone

In the studio, he uses Spector. He tours with the Modulus basses because of the graphite's stability.
