I don't listen to either of these sub-genres, but aren't death metal, black metal, and screamo pretty much different names for the same thing?
Read that one but got sucked down the rabbit hole of infinite subgenres. Also it doesn't answer my question in reference to being a metal beginner.
It's not a "rabbithole" it's 100% valid. There is a huuuge variety of styles within metal, and as long as you can't be more specific about what kind of metal you'll be playing, there's really no way we can give you any kind of answer to your questions. At least other than "use your ears and just go with it". That said, if you, by Your own admission, don't "get" metal, I don't really see this working out either way. Or maybe I'm just being pessimistic. Just give it a shot, and try to enjoy it for what it is.
Ask them what /who they sound like so you kinda have an idea .I'm not sure exactly what kind of metal. This is supposed to be an originals band, so I'm not sure if it's even been decided.
It sounds like the bass just doubles the guitar lines 80% of the time, and it has to be more complex than that! I need something approachable to get a feel for what I'm supposed to be playing and when.
agreed alcoholicaI guess Metallica is a good intro.
Out of curiosity, why do u have to go play with them?
And why did I agree, since you have no idea what u are playing and can't play it?
Hadn't really heard Animals as Leaders and Norma Jean yet. Great musicianship, cool stuff to listen to, thanks for the tip.Whores, Animals As Leaders, Red Fang, The Sword, Norma Jean, Dillinger Escape Plan
