Best Micro-Combo

Our drummer has been using his electronic set lately. It's been very nice being able to cut the overall stage volume way down. So now I'm thinking of getting a very small combo like the GK MB150. What's the difference between the 150E and 150S? Who's got the best prices on GK? Is there another small combo that I should look at?

Oh...classic rock band. My usual rig is a Mesa Walkabout, Schroeder 1210, Lakland 44-94. We mostly play small bars w/ less than 200 people.

RMCaudio has the best GK prices. I would look into the Shuttle 3.0 8 combos though for what you are going to pay for that GK new, they aren't cheap.

I would also look into getting a GK 700 RBII NEO 1x12 combo used, they sound pretty darn good.

I've got the GK MB 150S but I've played the E too. The E model has some extra goodies like the semi-parametric eq and chorus, but is basically the same amp. You can check the differences by looking at the specifications page for each amp on the GK website.

I didn't need or want the extras on the MB 150E and I'm very pleased with the S model I have. It's a wonderful sounding little thing that sounds a lot bigger than it should considering its size and light weight.

I too used the Walkabout Scout combo for larger gigs. Another great little amp.

Where's the best place to buy one? How much should I expect to pay? So far I'm seeing about $1000 from GC?

IMHO..I think the AER Bass One combo that just hit the streets is an amazing piece of gear..but very pricey...do a search in the amps section for AE...

just get a light 112 like a bergantino or epifani and use your walkabout. I think it would sound much better than a markbass and maybe even the GK combo, certainly louder if necessary.

IIRC, the cabs, minus the heads, show up in the classifieds from time to time. Would be a really good solution if like the mesa now, and the head is light.

I have a Hartke Kickback 12 that I am extremely impressed with - they sell for $439 at Sweetwater.com. I was afraid it wouldn't have much "oomph", so I was thinking about the Hartke Kickback 15, but the salesperson at the store told me he thought the 12 actually sounded better than the 15 - a little tighter bottom, more focused sound. I compared them, and he was right. Plus - it's smaller and less expensive.
