Best name in bass amps

I love those pictures of hamming it up with a doghouse. One of these days, I would like to get to doing that, but for the time being, I'm lucky to get the right note on purpose.

Best name? Just for name, fEARful has to be the best name. Best amp or cabinet might be different, but a name is just a name, and that answers the question.

HAve to wonder if it was the total Ampeg amp giving you the mud or your cab? The PJB uses those little speakers so I imagine they are crisp as all heck - haven't heard one myself. Heads can sound very different through different cabs. But that just opens another can of worms, "best head regardless of cab used" vs. "best cab regardless of head used".

I had Crate's top of the line head back in the80s, running it through 2 Fender V-4 cabs(talk about a flashback) and it was killer.
I like Ampeg, my Eden combo has been great for smaller 200-400 person rooms. Not terribly convinced that tubes improve bass tone much.

Well - I could tell you the name of the worst bass amps of all times:
Carlsbro.

And even the name is crap - sounds like a chinese copy of american cigarettes.

It was my first bass amp, my parents bought for me, when I was 14:
60 watts and a 12" speaker. Pseudo-Vox-look.

It sounded like, mmmmmh, let's think about it,.......like a fart.
Yes: a fart-amp called Carlsbro.

My second amp (the first real one) was the Music Man HD150 - the best amps Fender ever built. And a real good name...

I have always liked Ampeg, Eden and GK. My experience has been Eden has the best tone, GK was the most reliable and Ampeg tube amps while not having the same tone as Eden, still sound great and are very reliable.

I thought that this thread would contain a lot of goofy, funny answers and I was correct . (Yes, I read the whole thread before answering.)

There are a lot of well thought out replies as well.

I currently am running a Fender Bassman 400 through a matching Bassman 115 cabinet. It's a decent rig capable of handling any gig I'll do, but I'd like to move up to the next level eventually. Reading through this whole thread I discovered that there is no clear consensus as to what a next level might be.

When I'm ready I'll just have to try everything until I fall in love with something.
