Best over drive pedal under $200?

I bought the CM-2 used on eBay after reading a number of positive comments made about it on this forum, and could not be happier. Admittedly I didn't think much of it when I played it at first but I've recently started to really appreciate it. I ditched my Bass Big Muff as it seems fuzz just isn't my flavour for now and this thing replaces it remarkably well. Can go from gritty to mega dirty, whilst always retaining that important low end. To think I was going to get rid of it as soon as I first got it as well. Happy camper.

I'm still enjoying mine!

Also check out from Darkglass their Microtubes B3K and their newest entry the Microtubes Vintage Invalid Link Removed You can order them from www.bassefx.com IMO, the B3K is the best OD for bass I've ever tried and am looking forward to trying the different vibe of their new Vintage when it is released in a week or so.

The incoming brand spanking new EBS Billy Sheehan signature drive pedal at a smidgen under 200 notes might be worth checking out. Some neat innovative features, but not a lot of demos out there just yet.

Do You know what are main feature/price differences between bk3/7 and the vintage darkglass?
may run a fuzz of some sort eventually too.. Thanx Paul.. am in maryland

Sparkle Drive is my fav OD pedal. Mostly it's the blwnd comteol that makes it. My fav OD is my Music Man head in 50 watt mode and fired up about half way. No pedal does that...

Depends what kind of music you play, even then it's not definitive. Blues, Jazz, and Country? Probably not. Rock, Metal, Post Rock, Post Metal, Progressive, Hardcore, Post Hardcore, Punk, Jazz Punk, Progressive Punk Jazz Flute, etc...yes. YMMV.


(I think it would tickle my funny bone for once someone to go into the Non Effects area and tell everyone if they don't have at least 5 pedals between their bass and amp they're doin it wrong, just to start evening out the posts of "effects? Who in gods name needs effects?" (Not directed at you personally))

I play blues, jazz, southern rock and classic rock. None of which need effects IMO. I like clean or a little grit. Never had any complaints from band mates yet. Let the guitar player use the effects. I must be really old school.

Thanks everyone I know it was a little over my budget. But I went with the darkglass vintage pedal right away on the tests it was the sound I wanted.

Where the heck have I been on these fuzzorocious pedals!!??!? They sound rediculously awesome!! Any of you have experience with any of these? The OSD in particular? That darkglass vintage sounds sweet too. I'd like to hear your take on it when you get it good sir.

The MXR M80 preamp has a pretty good overdrive/distortion. At first I wasn't too keen on it but once you get used to how it should be set for your sound it's great. Cuts right through the mix perfectly.

+1 the tip it's to turn the mids at 3h or 4h
