Best overall jazz bass

If one's idea of Jazz bass sound is both pickups on full, then you can get that sound from a Stingray HH. If, like me, you prefer neck or bridge pickup solo, then the Stingray HH fails.

Other than that, it's not a jazz bass.

The Lakland Skyline Darryl Jones model is great. They still seem to pop up used in the $800 range. Mine (which is from 2004) sounds the best out of the six Jazz Basses or Jazz Bass clones that I own. For me it has the ideal 70's J sound (even though the specs are based on Darryl's '66). It has rock solid workmanship and it plays like a dream. I don't have any experience with the current version in the Lakland lineup, but I imagine they are good.

These are the 3, I currently own and play:
Dean EAB, ESP LTD B-205SM Spalted Maple Bass Guitar, See Thru Black Satin and a Squier by Fender Classic Vibe 70's Precision Bass - Maple - Black. The pictures do not do the ESP justice, it is lighter like a dark and light chocolate brown NATO ash. Very gorgeous.

I've played two Fender CS jazz basses and they were the best ones I've sampled. I own one of them. If I wanted a great jazz bass made for me, and I had the cash, I'd go FCS nine times outta ten.

I also prefer a passive jazz with single coils and a full sized Fender style body.

I have the Fender Rarities Flame Top Plasma Burst Jazz Bass from 2019, and it's perfect. Sounds amazing, and feels even better! Only Fender Jazz with an ebony board, and in a color I had never seen before. For some reason, they didn't sell all that well, so I got it for a steal. It's my favorite 4 string at the moment.

I probably misread the thread's title...thought the OP was asking about best ooverall jazz basses.

Best I've owned and played was a Sadowsky NYC bass. Wish I would have kept it.
