Best overall jazz bass

I've owned various Jazz basses (Sadowsky Metro, Xotic, Fender, Lakland) but my Sandberg passive is the growliest. I had a Sire V7 Mk II (ebony neck) which was also really growly. A great bass for a quarter of the price.
Best Fender I've ever played, and by a kinda significant margin. If the Elite Jazz hadn't sounded like dry white toast tastes, it would probably get that honor.

I love my Moollon JV to pieces, and I've owned and played a lot of great boutique jazz basses.
that said: a black one or a red one is probably better than a pink one or a yellow one.
also: any jazz bass with a split-coil pickup at the neck also works! 
disclosure: i'm currently going through a "i hate jazz basses" period. it may pass.
While I like my Fender Elite Jazz V very much , I would be greatly tempted to trade it for a Geddy Lee USA 5 string version if such a bass existed.
You may opt for a Marcus Miller V, another great jazz bass .. not boutique, but, yeah, great
On the right is an Adam Clayton signature that I fell in love with at this shop... on the left is my Squier VM 77' Jazz Bass.
...there were also plenty of MIA, MIM, and various vintage jazz basses hanging on the wall.
The Adam Clayton had something special, but I've also said that about my Squier VM77'. The rest of the jazz basses were fine, but they didn't have "it".
As much as I loved the Adam Clayton bass, I couldn't justify dropping $1500 on a bass that played and sounded as nice as my Squier, but not better. Only things I'd change about the Squier are the tuners and the (IMHO) ugly paint color. It just has the sauce.
If I could find one in white , that was less than 9 1/2 lbs, and the neck was as comfortable as the Elite then maybe . Hmmm typing this just made me appreciate my Elite V even more.
I do enjoy the Ebony fb. That something not found often on a Fender.

Ask and you shall receive !! I actually did find a 5 string version of my USA Geddy Lee. It cost 1/2 price of my Fender Elite Jazz . I bought them both used. Same alder / maple 70's pickup placement as my Geddy. They weigh about the same. And the neck was even more comfortable than my Elite.
This Carvin SB5000 is a remarkable bass. I sold my Elite and put money back into my account.
Best 2 Jazz Basses I've ever played.
My favorite is my Fender 60th Anniversary Jazz. It feels and sounds perfect to me.
If one's idea of Jazz bass sound is both pickups on full, then you can get that sound from a Stingray HH. If, like me, you prefer neck or bridge pickup solo, then the Stingray HH fails.
