Best P-Bass for $1500ish

Spend time and play a bunch of basses. And don't pass on one that speaks to you. In general though, I agree w/ caca kicker,you can find a CS, probably w/ a quartersawn neck. I have a 59 NOS, love it, and every CS P I've played has been just plain awesome. I like the Laklands,( LOVE the AC's$$$) and others, but if you want that real Fender sound, get a fender, period.

I had my heart set on a Lakland Duck Dunn and was convinced that it would be my P when the time came, then I played the 08 Fender and 62RI and those became options also... But if I can afford it (find a used one) I will stay true to Lull.

The RI's, most CS models, and the Hwy 1's (though it's a satin finish). And none of them have a true nitro finish. As discussed earlier, it's nitro over poly.

I thought the CS was doing only nitrocellulose to be true to the original, etc.

57 Reissue hands down. Can be found used for less than $1500. Huge sounding bass, a little nicer (IMO) than the 62 reissue. Beefier sounding.

have yet to play the new fenders but, i have yet to play a lakland i didnt like. their necks just seem PERFECT to me.

It's a 1993 USA 57 reissue and I am happy to say it is awesome. I went to check it out this morning and discovered one of the best P bass necks I have played. Not a buzz anywhere and the action is low. A few dings and a large chip on the bottom edge couldn't deter me from snapping this one up. It's a little heavier than the other 57's I've played, not sure if that good or bad really, but a nice and resonant piece/s of ash. Nitro finish has aged to cream complementing the aluminum guard and maple neck nicely.

Also is has my birthday 1306 in the serial number (13th June, us brits write it the logical way round) I noticed that after I had decided it was the one! Oh and the price with the tweed case $1100, not cheep but well worth it IMO, also saved $400 on the price of the 62RI I was considering and didn't have to deal with any sales people!

2008 Jazz bass

2008 American Standard.

New American Standard P-bass or '62 RI are both great.
Biggest difference is the neck. Either one you can't go wrong.

Another +1 on the '08 Am Std P Bass.

I have played 5 so far in different stores (including GC...OMG!!! ) and not a stinker yet.

If you are looking for a genuine P Bass sound, these are great and are reasonably priced.

I believe The Perfect Bass has a couple with excellent pricing for TBers.

+2 on a used Lakland Bob Glaub or an '08 Fender American Standard.

There's just something about those 2008 American Fenders....I can't say I love mine enough.
