Sorry for the slight highjack.... Does anyone have direct experience with the Duncan set listed in the poll, SJB-3b + SPB-3? My main concern is the J pickup being single coil, I thought it had to be humcancelling to work with a P pickup w/o noise. I have this set on hold at my local shop and was going to get them this afternoon. Thoughts?

Feel free to hijack - I just bought a Bart PJ set in the classifieds but might also grab one of the other bridge pickups mentioned.

As for the SD pairing mentioned - I got that idea from [Invalid or Expired Link Removed].
Not sure about the noise aspects.

i put the passive Delano p/j set in my 77' P (i used the non exposed pole piece set). They give a full on active sound, huge lows, hyped mids, and smooth/pristine top end. Very full spectrum, and they sound great with the tone pot removed and straight wired in series to the output jack. Highly recommend.

Missing from the list - Aguilar. They're still relatively new. I just put a set into one of my Warmoths and I'm in love with that bass all over again.

The pickups are matched very well, meaning the J isn't anemic or tinny. There are sizzling highs if needed, but rolling them off a bit makes for a very organic (for lack of a better word) sound. I replaced a set of EMG's with BTC pre.

I'm running them passive V-V-T and with both full on they're very muscular, great mids that don't honk and can get crisp if you want it. Plus with the J being humcancelling you can use each at any level noise free.

Highly recommended.
