best pedal tuner for bass?

I just bought a Korg Pitchblack tuner on ebay. I couldn't believe how cheap it was. I got it for $79 with tax and shipping included! I'll give it a try. The one thing I noticed right away that looked better than the Boss TU2 was that it was waaay more visable- which is really my only complaint about the TU2. And ha ha...I don't like wearing my glasses on stage.

I'll let you know if I like it.

I have been using the bullet proof Boss TU2 for years.. I have never ever had any issues with this tuner.. and it does not alter my signal in any noticeable way.. I change the battery maybe twice a year.. if that.. it hardly drains my battery.. I ensure it's unplugged whenever not in use/between sets.. it's built like a tank, deadly accurate, and very simple to read... my opinion.. Korg Pitchblack or TU-2--whichever is cheaper.. I cannot imagine either is better than the other.. I have never used personally a Korg Pitchblack but have lent my Boss to other bass players owning the Korg--who noticed no discernible difference..

cannot go wrong with either of these products..

That's irrelevant. What IS relevant is whether you like the sound after running through a TU-2. Every component (instrument, pickups, strings, cable, pedals, amp, speakers) affects the sound, so what matters is NOT whether it's "true bypass" or not, it's whether you like the result.

My TU-2 is the one pedal I'll probably never part with. They're bulletproof and they work great...and the Mute to tune function is incredibly valuable when changing instruments or tuning.

I've used many different tuners over the years. The Korg DT-10 is a favorite because it has a larger display and you easily read it in bright sunlight during day gigs. It's bigger than the Boss.

In terms of which is better, they will all keep your bass in tune.

I just got a pitch black a couple of weeks ago. I love it! Popping can be an issue with true bypass pedals, but the pitch black does not pop at all (at least for me it doesn't).

Both the Sonic Turbo and the Pitch Black have a few users who report this 'pop' issue, and from my experience it has at least something to do with what else is in the signal chain. My Turbo Tuner is totally quiet when switched, but a few get pops when bypassing. I had this problem with the active/passive switch on a Pope preamp. It only happened with my Thunderfunk amp. No other bass had a problem with the TF, and the Pope didn't pop with any other amp. Dave put some sort of capacitor somewhere in the input stage of the amp and it never was a problem again.
