Ok I bought the irig for 20 bucks and the Ampeg amp on it for 5 bucks. Can't complain really. Has a built in tuner as well. It's definitely passable tone for headphone jamming. Thanks everyone for the replies!

They are great and I think I should sell mine as I never use it; somebody could get a lifetime of use out of it.

Ive tried it on just run of the mill rca and sony, but i have used my wifes bose which are very good and where it sounds alot better it still has that warbly/sonic kind of sound.

It may be because I roll the treble almost completely off as I like the boomy low sound with no top end, that this and almost anything I can make sound decent to my liking.

for cheap behringer ma400, just need a DI and headphones and you can plug in MP3 and bass and have level for both.

nice ones are cafe walter and phil jones bighead. the inherent tone of the phil jones i liked better, but the power of the cafe walter to drive higher impedance headphones was nicer. if i had an extra 150 i'd get a cafe walter again.

That Phil Jones is really cool...latest object of my GAS lusts.

The EHX is a great value but lacks an ipod input.

The Vox is super convenient but the tone is not so great.

The Korg Pandora served me well. However it is in the box since I got the SFX headphone amp (9v) and a Sanyo battery pack and other pedals, pedal board, etc..., but the Pandora is way more portable. That Phil Jones would win me over the Pandora now, it looks beautiful, and is probably more robust than the Pandora plastic box with cheap-o jacks.

My one reason to hesitate buying the Phil Jones is the battery not being replaceable.

I know you said that you don't need any effects but for just a little over $40 you can get the Zoom B1on. A dry bass headphone amp can sound pretty boring and uninspiring quickly. With the B1on you not only get a nice headphone amp but a great tuner, drum machine, looper, aux input to run songs from your phone or iPad into and, just in case you get curious, around 100 really useful effects. It's small, lightweight and would easily fit in a guitar case or gig bag. I got mine for $42 on Amazon and am extremely impressed with it. Battery life (4 Alkaline AA or rechargeable AA) is right around 20 hours!

Nice review. I'm like the only idiot who doesn't like the Zoom MS-60B pedal. What I really wanted was this one, not as a serious pedal, but more for fun when practicing by myself. I may have to take another look. Thanks!
