Discussion in 'Bass Humor & Gig Stories [BG]' started by Quinn Roberts, Dec 1, 2018.

  1. Been working on my stage presence as of late, have been looking for good "power pose" examples.

Well, since you didn't specify bassist, guitarist, or whatever, I'll start with...

    Johnny Ramone, always...

    And forever...
    4338005713_a9802fd9cd_b.
    Hollywood Forever, that is.
Dee Dee was no slouch himself, but he was always hopping around most of the time...
    big_dee-dee-ramone.

    This is inevitable...
    Lemmy+Kilmister.
But I wouldn't mess with JJ either then...

    ...or now...

    Hooky had some great poses...

  6. The original rock, pop and soul artists with best moves and poses.
Everyone after them is just a variation of these guys.

    Elvis the pelvis
    Chuck 2.

    Nicholas Brothers
    Chuck 5 Nicholas Bros.

    Chuck Berry
    Chuck.
    James Brown
    Chuck3.
    Keith Richards
    Chuck4.

A common practice until the late 1960's. Bowing to your audience as a sign of appreciation at end of show
    Chuck 7.

...and of course the original "posers".....wait! How'd they get in here?
    Chuck 6.

I had a lecturer tell us, quite seriously, that when she is teaching, if she feels a little nervous ahead of time, she goes in the ladies room and practices her "power poses."

At the time, I just thought, "Lady, when I am the speaker, I make sure that my content is absolutely riveting with valuable information, insight or instruction, and I thereby own the audience, or classroom. I am filled with confidence because of what I have to offer, and how it will affect my listeners lives. If I am nervous (seldom happens), I review my notes, if anything.

When I play, I try to accomplish the same goals: what will the music/lyrics do for the hearers? (Usually a congregation, as I usually play in churches.) No need to "pose."

    Just my thoughts...but I am not a rock-star. :)

If anything, I'd use Robert Trujillo as a cautionary tale. No one wants to be seen crabbing it these days.
