Best preamp/pickups, Active, Fender Jazz 5

So first off I really need to get a new preamp because mine is starting to act up. I need an active one but I'm not looking to spend $400 dollars for one... I'm a college student and just dont have the funds lol.

Also what are some good pickkups (Active) would be good. I'm looking for something that is extreamly smooth. I play rock and play for a lot of worship bands so I need something good for that

I had Aguilar OBP3 in mine Fender MM4 and I have it also in mine Fender MM5...very transparent very cool. J-Retro (DLX) is also very nice but I think it will make your instrument sound more "active"
