That's what I think of rap/hip-hop/etc.
We're not talking about personal favorites here. We're talking about the best.
I think they've made certain incarnations work... Drama was great, and so was Fly From Here, and I think Moraz was the best of all of them, IMO. As much as I miss Squire, it's not like he's played an interesting bass line in years. Sherwood sounds like an imitation, and he also seems to be stuck in the 90's, sonically, too. But Jon Davidson sounds like a much weaker version of Anderson, his voice lacks any power, he always sounds like he's on the verge of crying.
They just lost the spark a long time ago... the 80's ruined them, and they never really recovered, artistically. Now they're just an incredibly half-assed tribute act.
Meshuggah will challenge your preconceptions of “Prog”…. Enjoy. I can’t think of a band with more control of time in their compositions.
Although I love Tool possibly even more than Crimson, I think Crimson is the better Prog band.
