best rackmount power condtioner..?..

Other than the light shows, none of them are any more useful at suppressing spikes and surges than a decently spec'd surge protector in power strip format screwed into the back of a rack, but are quite a bit more expensive.

The next step up from a surge protector in either form is a true line stabilizer/conditioner with an autotap transformer - this keeps voltage within spec as long as the wall-supplied service isn't way way below what it ought to be.

I think they're probably all very similar. I have a Furman PL-II with the lights as voltage meter and they new technology that supposedly protects your gear AND the power conditioner agaisnt surges (unlike older units who sacrificed themselfs to protect the gear).

I like mine...

Go with the one that fits your budget. I'd recommend any Furman unit.

I spent a lot of time doing research into this. I have some pricey gear to protect.

My conclusion was that you're just as well off getting a well-made power strip with surge suppressor as any of the rack mount units.

If you want a rack mount unit for neatness' sake, I'd suggest the Tripp-Lite models as a good affordable option, though the Furmans are better looking, IMO. The Isobar 12 is a nice unit, and can be had for a less than a comparable (PL series) Furman. No rack lights, though. If you want the rack lights and surge suppression, go for the Furman PL-8.

Regarding power conditioners with light modules: Who else has thought that lights on the back of the power conditioner would be better than lights on the front. I almost never have a problem seeing the front of my rack gear on a dark stage, but constantly have a problem seeing the inside of the rack case (i.e. the back) on a dark stage. I always bring a flashlight to gigs with me, but if they could turn the lights around, that would be aces... although I wouldn't want to lose any outlets on the back due to space constraints... this must be one of those "cake and eat it too" situations :p

The PL-8 Series II actually has a BNC connector on the back so that you can connect a gooseneck style light (littlelite, etc.) into the back.

Lonnybass gave me the idea to use a bathroom nightlight in the back of my rack.

The BNC connector style light would work even better though...wonder why my 32 channel mixing board only has one at the master end...it's a l-o-n-g way away from Channel 1.

I would like to respectfully dissent from the Furman crowd and recommend the Monster Power MP PRO 2500 Rack Power Center.

I have the 2500 for my bass rig and the 3500 for my PA system. The outlets are grouped between digital, analog and power. They automtically cycle the digital outlets on first, then the analog, and then the power outlets. It powers down in reverse order, so you never have to worry about which items you power up or down first.

With respect to to my Monster unit above, I can relate the following:

I had just purchased a new Schro 21012L from Jorg and I kept hearing this sound like paper being rustled or crumpled thorugh the cab. It was intermittent, so I doubted that it was the speaker. Jorg suggested it may be a dirty power problem.

I purchased the Monster unit I described above, and never heard that noise again.

I'm struggling to find a power conditioner over here in the UK that does more than 10A's and with me having both an Iamp600 and Iamp800 those alone exceed that, does any body know a reasonably priced unit that does around 15A's and has a power socket on the front?
