Best Retailer to Purchase an Iphone Battery ?

I have an old iPhone4 from 2011 that is not keeping a charge anymore. I'm due for an upgrade but I'm looking forward to still keeping this around for music, photos, etc - plus I still don't have a new phone yet so I can put it to some use in the mean time. I know there are eBay sellers that get rid of used batteries claiming they are new and some people sell new ones that are much more expensive but may not do the trick. Just wanted to see what the consensus was and if any of you have had satisfactory results replacing an iPhone battery. As far as details go, the model of my iPhone is A1349.

I would suggest going to an Apple Store if possible. It's a near-orgasmic experience for some, I just enjoy going. We have a new store in Portland that is mood altering from what I've been told. You go in, hang out, leave, and you have a whole new outlook on life. I must admit, if I was forced to choose a religion, it would be the Cult of Apple.

It has taken me almost 9 months to become Un brainwashed from the Apple cult.

That's coo. I have nothing against those other companies. I just don't want to buy a phone that part of the cost ends up going to Apple as a result of lawsuits from stealing functionality.:woot:

I actually am on my first iPhone (a 4 year old 3GS) and inherited my iMac and iPad from my departed mommy. As soon as one of them croaks, I'm sure to jump ship cuz I be poor.

I just called the local Apple store, to get a new battery installed into a 4S the cost would be $79 plus tax. Just calling the store and talking to an automated system for 5 minutes or so then being directed that the automated system direly needed my phone's serial number before proceeding to talk to a live person was almost a religious experience. The added bonus was that when the live person came on the line, she didn't have the foggiest idea on how to communicate, she kept interrupting me, and also assumed that she knew the answers to questions before she asked them and she would not let me convey to her why I was calling. A phone call that should have taken 30 to 40 seconds tops to get the right answer took about 7 or 8 minutes. Way to go Apple.

Third party phone batteries tend to be junk, not worth the trouble or possible damage they can cause to the device. I suggest making a genius bar appointment at the Apple Store with the goal of getting it done while you wait.

I fix Macs and iPhones for a living.

That's actually odd. It sounds like you were calling a cellular or cable provider. I can tell how upset it made you by your font size choice.:woot:

Actually, the store address was listed with the phone number, I'm pretty sure I was getting through to the apple store. Apple's battery pettiness is a bit annoying. Still, font size isn't all about my anger, sometimes I just want to be able to read what I'm typing!:mad:

You can do it yourself for $40 + shipping. $80 doesn't seem that unreasonable.

For me, it was the Appleverse that turned me off. I really loved all my iPhones.
But "you must have a valid iTunes acct with an Apple device with OSX and the right version of OSX and god forbid you try to activate two separate iPhone templates on the same MacBook..."

Nope.

in the past, I've changed a couple of iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 batteries for friends and family. The 4 us WAY easier because the back panel of the phone comes off.

I bought the batteries off of eBay and they usually cost about $10 or less.

I'm sure there is an iPhone thread but since the new iPhone 6 is slated to come out in the next couple of months, I'll just hold off in a buying a new iPhone till then. When it comes to timing a purchase, the rapid release rate does make it a bit more difficult. Either way, hopefully this new battery will stave off any unwanted dead cell phone activity.
