Best Rig You've EVER played through

Guys, guys, guys. This is where I'm at a disadvantage.I'm "geographically challenged".No music dealer within 350 miles of me has good quality,eh,high-quality,kickass gear.Yes,I had to order my current rig sight unseen, sound unheard. Not a good feeling.A dealers idea of a kickass rig around here is a Fender 15 watt combo.Sad but true.
Best rig I've played thru??Mine.(ALL EDEN)WT-800 W/2 4X10xXLT's(Calzone r/cases/racks 4 all),Ashley Comp.,T.C.Electronics Chorus.When locals hear it??(In "hick mode"):"Where'd you git tat??Californi??
I'm lookin' to upgrade to a more"hi-fi"rig.But,I DEFINITELY will keep the Ashley and T.C.Electronics Pedal.I would highly recommend an Ashley Comp. to anyone.Awesome.

Although I did have a Boogie 400+ Y-E-A-R-S ago(Thru SVT 8x10).Purchased it in the early 90's for around $300.00(Yes!!Cab'n'all!!).It had just been completely serviced top 2 bottom. And,I mean the previous owner was seriously anal about his equipment. It was essentially, new.
God,I would give an eye tooth(hey,It don't matter,I'm from W.V.!!LOL..Joke!!) to play some EBS,Bergs,Epifani,EA,Markbass,etc.,etc.And you guys/gals rag on Guitar Center!Shame on you!Be careful what you wish for!!

Glockenklang HeartCore into an Accugroove Whappo Jr.... just amazing tone and LOUD when you needed it to be loud.

And then I sold the Whappo Jr. - I'm now using a Tri-115 which is really nice also and a bit lighter but not as punchy.

Quite sincerely..

Not meant to Gloat or anything..

An active bass = > passive di box => board => a team of sound engineers.

I've played stadiums multiple times.. botique or holy grail setup will never compare to the sound of talent bending fine tuning your tone.

Makes any SVT, Elliot, Berg cab, Genz or whatever totally irrelevant and obsolete.

1) Prototype GK head into I cannot remember what cab at a festival in the eighties. Amazing head apparently sneaked out from the GK development lab (if there was such a place). 2) Trase Elliot V8 into two SWR 410 cabs 3) My current SVT VR into a Berg 215 (with this head I prefer the 215 over the 610).
Can't distinguish between these as I never had them side by side, but they are all equally clear memories of tone nirvana.

The rig I currently own: Ashdown ABM 400, Epifani 2x10 & Epifani 4x10. I can do small gigs, medium gigs and large gigs and sound great.

I have thought of getting a more powerful head, since in the full-on 6x10 arrangement I worry that my head isn't quite up to it, but it sounds fine, so I'll not stress just yet.

Boomer-
About 30 years ago I played an outside pick-up gig using the band's PA. A set of Bose 802's with a McIntosh power amp. No bass amp. I heard the whole band that night, especially me.
Don't know if it was really a great sound, or if I was just all jazzed because I didn't have to haul a bass amp out to the middle of the pasture where we played. Never had a chance to buy some Bose speakers, but would jump on it if I saw some on Craigslist or a yard sale.

Played through - probably an Ampeg SVT/810 - hated it, turned it off and used the monitors.
Owned - SWR Goliath 410 and Goliath 210 with a 750 head - liked it, loud, but too big.

See, this 2x10 + 4x10 arrangement seems ideal to me - for small gigs, you don't schlep that much but you have the gear for the bigger gig.

Why did you think your gear was too big? Was the head to heavy?

I'm not too big on my current rig. Fender Rumble 25 and Fender Rumble 100 dont do it for me. My basses are great though, my Squier Fretless Jazz bass is excellent, as is my old Memphis Precision bass, even if a bit beat up. My dream rig would be Rickenbacker 4003 Jetglo Model, Fender Geddy lee Jazz Bass, Acoustic B600H and B810 Stack, or Ampeg STV-610HLF bass Cabinet with Ampeg SVT-CL Classic Bass Head. Those things would make me a happy boy right about now, Im really sure about it.

For me, its a tie:

Best single tone: 1960 stack knob Fender Jazz Bass through a 1970 SVT with matching 8x10. Nothing else ever sounded as good.

Best versatile setup: My rig circa 1994 -- Sadowsky Jazz into SWR 350 Red Face and SWR SM400s heads with 2 Golliath II 4x10 cabs on top of 2 Big Ben 1x18 bottoms. The pre-Fender SWR stuff was really top notch and the SWR folks treated me very well.

Don't miss the weight of either setup. :smug:

This one.

RBI preamp into a Crown XTI 1000 with a Dr Bass 310 neo and a Dr Bass 115 neo. I have a Markbass LMII I use with these speaker now and it sounds great and has plenty of power even though it's less than half the watts but the edge goes to the RBI/Crown for effortless power and tubey tone.
