Best Rig You've EVER played through

My former rig:
Phil Jones Bass 9b and 6T cabinets
Phil Jones Bass P-1 Preamp
Crown Microtech 2400

It sounded incredible, but was too heavy to be worth it to me, especially given my upcoming move and for the gigs I'm playing in the meantime.

Granted it's not the most portable, but this rig sounds incredible. The 2000S cab is loaded with JBL K140's, and the Reeves C225 is... well; it's a Reeves C225, what else do you need to say about it!

Of course, the C225 works amazingly with the cabs that were designed for it also;

And the big Sunn sounds pretty freekin killer with the amp it was designed for also;

I have played MUCh bigger rigs, and much much more expensive rigs, but nothing sounds finer than the Berg IP stack with a great preamp. IMHO.

For rock and roll, if you can't dial in a good tone with an SVT/810 rig, the problem's not with the amp.

...And yes, I do own an old SVT.

Plug an 18volt active system into there...it will overdrive the **** out of it. They sound OK with an old passive bass...

Aside from my current SVT/NV610 rig, probably the best thing I've ever plugged into was a Neve 1073 strip and a Summit tube compressor with a rack of Crown MA2400s driving a pair of Meyer 650 subs and a pair of MSL-2s. It was divine.

Now THAT'S a rig.

I recently played through a markbass 2x10 combo at Long and McQuade that was awesome...warm, clear, punchy. The GAS pains are starting to get bad

My current rig is perfect for me. A full tube pre-amp I built into a Carvin DCM1000 with each channel running into a 4Ω Acme B2. Another pair of Acmes for if I want to be totally nuts (not very often).

Way back when I was only dabbling in bass (I've primarily been a guitar player for 9+ years), my friends' punk band asked me to fill in on bass for a couple covers and I got to play through this guy's huge bass amp that was like at least a foot taller than me and covered in cheetah print fabric.

When I was doing a warm-up/soundcheck thing, it about knocked me flat on my ass the first time I hit a note.

I think only kids who've just started use Fender because it's "trendy" or it's what they're "supposed" to use. Everyone who's been playing a while, I would think uses whatever gear they use, whether it's a Fender P or an active 9-string single cut, simply because that's what they like.

Sadowsky PJ5> any preamp> any power amp> Bergantino 322 + 212. There is no bad, just different flavors of awesome.

Fror a more SS sound I was also EXTREEEEMELY impressed with a Genz 1200 thru Genz quad. I could hear the molecules vibrating in my D'addarios it was so damn accurate.

sorry for the OT but, I LOVE that Sabre bass. I had the same one. I bought it brand new in 1979. But I sold it.

best rig i've played is my very own Thunderfunk 750 head with my 4x10 ampege cab. the only thing that would be better is if i have a agular cab with the 8, 10, 15 and the tweeter.

Two rigs jog my memory, both were at blues jams. Had a chance to go through an Acoustic 360/371... The sound of gawd, I swear.. Another one was a Hartke rig that was tweaked perfectly. I'm getting close w/my Bmax/DCM600 rig.. when I get that BFM cab done....
