Best ROUNDS for a P-Bass?

A little remix on the classic "Best Flats for a P" thread...what's a good round set for a P? I've got a AM St P Bass that I bought a year ago new (I think it's 08-09) and I've been trying a few flats on it, tried Chromes, Rotosounds, and now have some D'Addario Half-Rounds on there. Just can't seem to get my sound...I play in a band that does a lot of style-changing, from Radiohead-ish stuff to Kings of Leon to R&B soul stuff...ideally i'd have 2 basses to go at it, but only one bass in shape right now to gig. I figure with rounds on there I'll get a bit more versatility. I dig the classic, Pino-school flavor of flats but need more definition, basically.

The big thing for me is definition...I can't seem to get note definition off the flats I've been using. With the tone pot turned either way...I figure the "dead" sound of flats just isn't quite my style. Also, the Half Rounds I have on the bass make the bass real hard to play...I've had them on for close to 4 months now and my fingers can't get a good grip on them, i feel like I'm fighting against the bass when I'm playing...

Eventually i'm going to switch the neck out for a jazz neck, but in the meantime I'd like to try some rounds on the beast for a change....also seriously considering going out and trying GHS Precision flats, they have a real good reputation on this board as having real good note definition and clarity...i just need a bit more zing in my sound. I figure as far as rounds go I'd need a darker set of rounds to match the mood of a P-Bass. I've always liked D'Addario rounds and GHS Boomers.

What rounds would you put on a P?

Hmm... Mellow rounds you say? Methinks the Sunneams as much as I dislike DR.

My personal favorites are Roto 66 steels. But they're very bright and agressive. I'm also fond of Hybrid slinkies, Fender 7250 and 8250s, D'Addarios and especially GHS boomers, which kill.

Damn, sunbeams seem to be getting mad respect here! I tried them on my jazz and they felt pretty good...

GHS Boomers seem to be a good idea since they die faster than others and hence can have a "dead" p-sound after a bit, ha...

I've always liked D'Addario on jazz-y basses, never tried them on a P-before...

Great ideas! I wanna try all of them!!!!!!

DR Black Beauties (are the 4 sets in K2 now? both K2 sets I tried on a 5er stank)
DR Lo Riders (consistent and good)
Dunlop medium nickels (been using these lately and liking them)
Rotosound Swing 66 (they're a standard for good reason)
D'Addario chrome flats (not rounds but great P Bass strings)

Rotosounds 1st, then Blue Steels. The Rotosounds have more snarl at first but the Blue Steels arent far behind & seem to last longer without sounding dead. I like the Dean Markley nickel rounds as well, they used to be called Bass Blasters in a 2 pack set, I recently got 2 sets of 2 for $20 on evilbay, they are now called Solid bass strings.
