I've heard a lot of these DIY fEarFul cabinets 15" with Eminence Kappalite speaker elements into it. They're good. As far as 15 inch neos goes, it seems that Eminence wins hands down. I've heard the NEW Fender rubmle 200W which has a NEW Eminence ceramic 15 inch, and it was awesome. However, I wonder if ... if it's going to be 15 inch and a woofer, how much can it be lightweight? I think the more "bottom" and stable and "fastness in response" it need to be quite sturdy built baffle and heavy framing around it, otherwise it won't produce much GOOD lows. I am all for speaker elements from Eminence, especially 15 inch and bass speakers. From my experience.
Another stab at it, I think the ONCE lauded Hartke aluminium drivers, has worn off a bit today, with their "fast response" and so on. They're not that up for it today, with the latest drivers from Eminence and others mentioned above. I think the "neo" flavor or timbre, has been better accepted soundwise, than the aluminium cones of Hartkes. But all said, it's the box (enclosure) that is just as important as the drivers. For starters, I want 15" that plays low (in frequency) rather than LOUD in volume. Alnico, Ceramics, Neo, they all have their special characteristics to them. You have to take into account the SPL Sensitivity to them, and so on. That they can handle the amp you're driving it with. Not just watts.
TIP: You wouldn't know how much it does to ANY bass cab - especially 15 subs - to remove the rubber feet beneath it, and have the WHOLE cab connect physically with ANY stage floor. They should come with retractable rubber feet, that you could fold in, and have it on the stage floor, with full area contact. And then, when moving it, fold them out again for easy sliding and stacking.
