I was wondering about suggestions for a replacement speaker for my Acoustic 301. The present CV 8 ohm is OK - but I wanted something that was faster on the attack and also gave more lows and highs. A slight bell curve is OK. I presently have an 8 ohm I87 and preferred in the past the sound of the 8 ohm I89 as example. (Hope model number is correct - never was sure an L or I) The I87 is "Middier" to my ear.
Quicker attack and full range - with power handling. I tried my SLM made SVT4-Pro on it but I really think that the 301 is louder or stronger. Not as granular in tone - but mega balls over the Ampeg. Especially in punch.
One problem - this 301 cab is the newer (hah!) front load version and the depth of the speaker is an issue. I tried a Gauss 4882 and it was too deep to fit. Apparently they only work with the older versions that load the speaker from the back while mine loads in the front.
OK - you got me. Well - I have an older front loader 301 too - if it is a deal killer. But was hoping for a speaker that could do both.
This is the main battle amp and not into biamping - I use active basses and a lot of clarity. Sometimes put the bright switch on. So, a rumble monster is not the answer.
