Best strap for heavy bass?

Anything wide and padded will help. Try straplocks too. It's bad enough to drop a light bass, dropping a heavy one is even worse.

Wide...like 3-4 inches...
Padded...

Look for a wide strap with a sheepskin pad on the underside. I can't imagine playing a 13-pound bass, but if you must, then I'd go for the extra padding provided by sheepskin.

Something like this! (image found via Internet search...)

My jazz bass is 11.5 lbs. I just bought a 3.5" Levy's padded leather strap. In a word it's AWESOME. Really makes the weight of the bass very manageable.

Here it is: http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/M4GFXLBLK

Ask @DwaynieAD, he was just here playing it.

I just left an hour ago, you already ripped stills off the go-pro? lol. yeah that strap is pretty nice except for the piece that hits mid back, but all in all not too major, it definitely distributes the weight well, I'll have to try it on the fiver, see if it helps with that monstrosity. for those of you around here that don't know by 5 string weighs 14.5 lbs

I do have the XLong so that hump could move fore or aft depending on height...which could be better or worse.

Geez man, what are you playing, a cinder block? ;)
But years ago my grandpa gave me his old 3 1/2'' wool lined leather strap, and its ridiculously comfortable and makes my Destroyer feel like nothing. Not the coolest looking strap but who cares. The one bummer about it is that the holes got a bit stretched out because every time I'd leave it on my bass at my guitarists house by the time I got back it was always on his guitar.

I've got a few of these. Like them a lot. Very wide and padded. I tried the foam straps and hated the springiness. Plus it seemed like I just couldn't get the pad located correctly. These Levy's straps immediately felt right.
