Thank you for information, everyday you hear something new. I think it's first post on Talkbass about Cobalt flats.
But....but....I play flats to get away from the brightness!

I probably shouldn't. I tried them and didn't really care for them despite going into it thinking I'd love them.
They just didn't do it for me.
I have a very specific sound in mind when I'm shopping for flats. I don't necessarily want highs so much as some extra richness. About the best flat I've found (for me) so far are the Thomastik-Infeld Jazz Flats. When I want a sound closer to flats but with something extra I go with GHS Pressure Wounds which gives some extra complexity but without brittleness.
The Cobalts just sounded harsh when played the way I play. They also sounded very "dry" to my ears - and not on a good way.
In the end there's really no such thing as a bad string when it comes to the major manufacturers. Just strings that work (or don't work) for individual players.
Cobalts didn't work for me.

See, my whole thing is that I love that sort of Victor Wooten type sound, but I hate the finger noise of rounds. Further, I find it much easier to cut through my guitarist's Traynor treble machine V1 (ha!) with these. But hey, to each his own!!!
I went for the standard gauge as a test (45-100). As far as feel goes, I find that there's much less pull on the fingers than most flats, like Chromes. The sound is very bright, but not quite so much so as regular Cobalts. A bit less high end anyhow.
I combined the five-string set with a TI high C. Works well tension wise and the high C is just a bit more middy. You can get the single from BSO.
Love the sound but not too crazy about the strings breaking. Best sounding string I have tried on my Jack Casady bass thus far. Had two strings break in my first set, but Ernie Ball sent me a new set to replace them. Great customer service from them by the way.
