Best strings for detuning?

Another question thrown into the mix, I've been reading up tuning down to the lower end notes. Once I get the strings I wanna use, is it cruicial to re-ajust the action? I'm not sure myself I'd probably take it to a custom shop to get it done but would it affect the sound (better or worse?)?

Try it and see. You may, you may not. And, if you do, any good guitar tech should be able to tweak it for you. But the bottom line is to give it a try first and see.

.045 / .065 / .085 will be too loose for CGCF. There will be excessive fret buzz, and not enough tension IME. Use .050 / .070 / .090 for GCF. I used a .110 for D, but .115 would be better for low C.

AEAD is another story: EAD can be .065 / .085 / .105, but I'd use a .130 / .135 min for low A

You will need to check your setup, and maybe do a new setup (if you want perfection). Re-set the neck relief, set the action up a little higher (depending on bass), and intonation for the low C.

I respectfully disagree. My DR Lo-Riders have plenty of tension, minimal fret buzz and super low action when tuned CGCF. Of course you'll have to do a set up, adjust the truss rod and intonation, but we're talking real minor tweaks.

To custom order DR Lo-Riders in the gauges you suggested would cost you over $100 at juststrings.com, btw.

Maybe The DR's are OK (never used them ... yet), but .045 / .065 / .085 [SIT Powerwound / D'Addario XL] were too loose IMO. A 45105 set is sold for a standard tuning - why wouldn't you up your gauge to account for the lower tension?

I use .050 / .070 / .090 / .110 for DGCF - Perfection IMO
