Ive got stainless Lo-Riders on my Sterling right now. Very growly and aggresive, great slap tone. If you want a more conservative sound, id try the nickel Lo-Riders.
I've only owned a Stingray 5 before, but when I had it, I tried many sets of strings on it, including D'Addario XL (my regular choice), Ernie Ball Slinkys, Elixirs, and Rotosounds.
Out of all of them, the Slinkys sounded the best. Very balanced sound, and easy on the fingers. I believe there's something to using the same strings made by the company to that bass.
