Double Bass Best time of year to try guts?

Hey guys, can't get the gut sound out of my head since I've been playing DB, and am going to take the plunge on a set.

My concern is that I'm in NYC and we are having a pretty cold winter, humidity has been very low.

I humidify my room well, and wonder if this is a good time of year to put new guts on? What might happen putting them on in the middle of a humid summer?

The only input I can give you is this: They react violently to changes in humidity. As long as the humidity stays stable, the strings will generally be stable. But, when you change the humidity quickly, they slip and slide all over the place.

The worst experience I had was in the summer, when it was very humid. i was playing a gig indoors in an air conditioned restaurant, but the owner decided to leave the door open as well. The gut strings were sliding out of tune every 5 minutes or so. It was rough.

Also, I should should tell you that I live in Seattle, where the climate is pretty mild.
