Best Way to Record onto the Computer

basically, the M-Audio Delta 66 + OmniStudio has everything that that firewire box does, but with a PCI card and without the midi inputs (but that can be solved easily if you have a game port). that's what i run and for the price i don't know if there's a better setup.

I'm probably really stupid, but I'm lost because I don't see 1/4" on any of these, and XLR on a few. XLR, I can work with, but how would you go about converting instruments to stereo RCA cables?

ohhhh yeah! i was going to get one of those but my guitar player bought a MOTU 896, so i figured i wouldn't need all the inputs and got the omnistudio (for a GREAT price, btw)

You can pick them up for around $800. Not too bad for 8 discrete preamps and 8 XLR ins and zero latency! I'm planning to get one to use with my Nuendo soon. Gimme Gimme!

OK, not necessarily the best way, but the best way with a budget around 500 or 600 bucks.

Those Neutrik things are pretty interesting looking, what other inputs do they accept?

Anybody know if a DI box is a definite need?

I've been recording for a few years with a Mac G3, Layla, and a Behringer mixer with good results, but keep on thinking a DI may make the bass sound better.

Thoughts?
