Hello folks,
first of all, does anyone out there know where I can lay my hands on a (preferably brand new, although I would accept mint) Ibanez SRX 700? I understand it has recently been discontinued and replaced by the (in my view much inferior) SRX 650; having said that, I have been searching the Web for days now and it seems to be readily available in the US at around $680 (£340). Trouble is, all of the sites I have emailed are contractually obligated to ship only within the continental US and its offshore territories - not really much use to me, based as I am in Scotland! It seems to be completely out of stock here in the UK, and indeed throughout mainland Europe as well.
Failing that, which of the following configurations might anyone recommend? I am very much into Black Sabbath and Hendrix, although I freely admit I'm no Geezer Butler or the immortal Jimi / Noel Redding ...
(a) Ibanez SRX350 + Marshall B65
(b) Ibanez GSR180 + Marshall B150
(c) Wesley Monarch + Marshall B150
Yep, Wesley Monarch. I found this one at (perhaps predictably enough) wesleyguitars.co.uk; it's very cheap at just £105, although it certainly looks very well made and looks as if it comes equipped with the same sort of chunky humbuckers as found on the SRX series. Too good to be true, do you think? I've stumbled across a few less than favourable reviews for Wesley Guitars, although not for this specific model. Basically, does it suck?
I don't really expect very much of the Ibanez GSR 180 either; it seems to be a rather perfunctory machine, unlike the completely unhinged SRX! Personally, I favour (b) the Ibanez SRX350 / Marshall B65 option, but oh, the sheer power of that 150 watts ...! Oh dear. I think I've just had a trouser accident.
